mind, brain, and teaching
I am a Doctor of Education in Mind, Brain, and Teaching, an integration of the cognitive sciences, psychology, neuroscience, and education. The program at Johns Hopkins University took me on a learning journey that changed me in fundamental ways. Have a look at Learning & Me: A Love Story, to see how.
My dissertation involved two empirical studies - one to gather evidence of the problem, and another to address it, called the intervention. For my intervention study, I applied cognitive science to help university students develop research skills using the Internet. My dissertation - Example-based learning for information problem-solving in Arabian Gulf higher education - was made possible by a true dream team of Juliana Paré-Blagoev, EdD, educational neuroscientist, Carey Borkoski, PhD, EdD, research methodologist, and Prof. Dr. Saskia Brand-Gruwel, information problem-solving expert.

Below: Dean Christopher Morphew, PhD, my hubby Rev. Jon Lavelle, my mom Wilma Caldwell, and me. This was the at the student excellence awards ceremony on May 21, 2018. Missing is my dad, Boyd Caldwell. |

curriculum, teaching, and learning
English as a second/foreign language
lifelong learning through podcasts, MOOCs (massive open online courses) + continuing ed.
Podcasts like Dr. Ginger Campbell's Brain Science, and National Public Radio's (NPR) TED Radio Hour are just two examples of the high quality free learning resources I tap into as much as I can.
